Instagram adding new features for DMs, to allow users edit photos

Meta-owned Instagram is adding various new features for direct messages (DMs), such as photo editing capabilities and stickers.

Users will now have the ability to edit photos by drawing on them or adding stickers before sending them via DM, similar to the editing features available for Instagram Stories, reports The Verge.

Additionally, the company mentioned that the users will be able to create their own custom stickers from their existing photos and use them in DMs. These enhancements will make the photo editing tools in chats more similar to those in Stories.

Instagram is also introducing new chat themes that can change the appearance of direct messages. These themes may include a fall theme or one promoting a new album by pop star Sabrina Carpenter, the report mentioned.

Another feature, which Instagram is adding, will allow users to post a note on their own birthday so their friends can send birthday wishes. When friends tap on the note, they will see a cake effect and confetti animation on the screen.

Earlier this week, the Meta-owned company added a new feature that allows users to comment on Stories also designed to increase engagement.
