Apple on Wednesday launched a new smartwatch for kids in India, with multiple features, including health and fitness.
The smartwatch is available in the country on cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 or later or Apple Watch SE, paired with iPhone 8 or later running the latest watchOS and iOS, the company said.
Along with health and fitness features, it offers easy calling, texting, and activity monitoring.
The watch brings “communication, health, fitness, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids and other family members who do not yet have an iPhone”, according to the company.
The watch is functional “even if they don’t have their own iPhone”. It can be set up via a parent’s iPhone.
The watch will also allow parents to track the location of their children, while all the personal data stays securely encrypted. They can also approve all contacts, so kids can safely use the communication features of the smartwatch.
Apple Watch For Your Kids users will have their own phone numbers with separate cellular plans through their own Apple IDs, the tech giant said, adding that Apple Watch requires a wireless plan for cellular service, which is currently available through Jio.
Moreover, children can follow schedules and family events using the calendar feature, learn how to manage tasks with reminders, and view photo albums synced from a guardian’s iPhone.
Aside from children, everyone in the family can benefit from the Apple Watch’s health and safety features, such as Emergency SOS, as well as Maps, Siri, and Alarms.
