Apple has announced the first set of Apple Intelligence features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, which is now available via a free software update with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Apple Intelligence is a personal intelligence system that utilizes the capabilities of Apple silicon to understand and generate both language and images.
It can perform actions across various apps, drawing from personal context to simplify and speed up everyday tasks.
“Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning to put Apple’s generative models at the core of our devices, giving our users a personal intelligence system that is easy to use – all while protecting their privacy,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.
Only select Apple devices are equipped to run the new generative AI offering.
This includes iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, iPads with an A17 Pro chip (including the new iPad mini) or M1 and later, or a Mac with an M1 or later, the company mentioned.
Apple Intelligence availability
The company said that the first set of Apple Intelligence features can be accessed in most regions worldwide when the device and Siri language are set to US English.
In December, Apple Intelligence will be available in localised English for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
In April, a software update will expand language support, with additional languages being added throughout the year.
The supported languages will include Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others.

Deeply integrated across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, Writing Tools will enable users to refine their language by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text in various applications, including Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps.
With the Rewrite feature, Apple Intelligence will let users select different versions of their writing and adjust the tone – whether it’s professional, concise, or friendly – to suit the intended audience and purpose.
With Apple Intelligence, Siri has become more natural, flexible, and deeply integrated into the system experience.
Users can type to Siri at any time on their iPhone, iPad, and Mac, seamlessly switching between text and voice to expedite everyday tasks.
With enhanced language understanding, Siri can keep up when users misspeak and maintain context across multiple requests.
In the Photos app, users can search for just about anything by simply describing what they’re looking for.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, the new Clean Up tool enables users to remove distractions from photos while preserving the moment as they intended to capture it.
Based on user descriptions, Apple Intelligence can select and compile photos and videos into a cohesive movie with its own narrative arc.

In the Notes and Phone apps, users can now record, transcribe, and summarise audio.
When a recording starts during a call in the Phone app, all participants are automatically notified. Once the call ends, Apple Intelligence generates a summary to help users recall key points.
The tech giant said that another round of Apple Intelligence features will be available in December.
These updates will include additional features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration.
