Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday said that artificial intelligence (AI) will surpass the capabilities of the best doctors. This was in response to a post by Bindu Reddy, CEO of Abacus.ai.
Reddy had expressed her belief that AI should replace human doctors as soon as possible, citing the limitations of human doctors in memorizing and retrieving information, as well as the prevalence of mistakes in their practice.

“It would be great for humanity if AI replaced doctors ASAP. Human doctors are forced to memorize a lot of information, are relatively poor at retrieving it, and frequently make mistakes,” Reddy said in a post on X.
“In addition, the system is completely rigged to restrict supply. AI is far better than humans at these tasks and makes fewer mistakes. The sooner we can adopt AI in healthcare, the better,” she added.
Musk then responded to her post, saying, “AI will be better than the best doctors”.
However, there were differing opinions among X users in the comment section of the post, with some agreeing and others disagreeing with Reddy and Musk’s perspectives.
“I agree we need AI in healthcare but we will still need doctors. The focus of med schools needs to be reevaluated so AI can do the memorization and doctors can focus on interpreting what it means and treating the whole person in front of them. Doctors will get better at critical thinking bc they won’t have to memorize an insane amount of info,” a user wrote.
“AI will be better than the best of the best in everything,” another user said.
One more user mentioned, “Going to be insane. The future is going to be crazy awesome. If we can get there. We are either on the brink of the darkest ages humans have ever seen, or the greatest ages the world has ever seen”.
