iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18 now have the option to record videos while playing music in their devices, as spotted by MacRumors.

In iOS 18, Apple has introduced a new feature that will allow iPhone users to continue playing music from their iPhone’s speakers while recording video in the Camera app. This means that this feature will be helpful while you’re creating a music video or simply want background music for your recordings. This new option also offers you greater creative control over your iPhone videos.

In older versions of iOS, when you open the iPhone’s camera app and switch to video mode, any audio playing would quickly fade out, even if it was playing through wireless headphones. However, with iOS 18, there’s a new camera setting to change that behaviour.

To access this feature, all you need is to open the iPhone’s settings, navigate to the Camera section, tap on Record Sound, and then turn on the Allow Audio Playback toggle.

When this feature is activated, the audio will still play while you’re recording a video in the camera app. If the audio is playing through the speaker, it will be captured by the iPhone’s microphone and recorded in mono along with the video. However, if the audio is playing through headphones, it won’t be recorded.

In older versions of iOS, there was a feature in the camera app called QuickTake, which allowed users to capture videos in photo mode by holding down on the shutter button. However, the resulting video was limited to a resolution of 1440p, instead of the 4K resolution offered through video mode.

The iOS 18 software update was released by the tech giant last week. This update brings new ways for iPhone users to personalise their Home Screen and Control Center. It also includes the biggest redesign of Photos, making it easier to find and relive special moments. Additionally, there are major enhancements to Messages and Mail.
