Airtel on Tuesday said that it will be discontinuing its Wynk Music streaming service ten years after launch.

An Airtel spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch that Wynk Music employees will be reassigned to other areas of Airtel’s business. Wynk is included in Airtel’s bundle of complimentary services for its paying telecom subscribers.

“Airtel customers will still have access to music streaming services through Apple Music. Moreover, Wynk Premium subscribers will receive exclusive offers from Airtel for Apple services,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Wynk Music was launched in 2014. The app allowed users to download music for offline listening, set caller tunes, listen to podcasts, and stream music in multiple regional languages, among other features.

Meanwhile, Airtel has announced a strategic partnership with Apple to offer exclusive deals for its OTT video and music streaming services, Apple TV+ and Apple Music, in India. As a result of this partnership, Airtel Xstream customers will be able to access Apple TV+ content with premium Airtel WiFi and Postpaid plans. Airtel stated that the addition of Apple TV+ would enhance the Airtel Xstream fibre offering.

“Airtel offers a one-stop shop to bring all content and entertainment through Airtel Xstream. This partnership with Apple will provide immense value to our customers since they will now have access to the best content and entertainment globally,” said Amit Tripathi, Chief Marketing Officer & EVP Customer Experience for Bharti Airtel.

According to the company, the Apple Music and Apple TV+ offers will become available exclusively to Airtel customers in India, later this year.

“With our ever-growing catalogue of world-class films, television shows and music to choose from we know there will be something for everyone,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports, and Beats.
