Google has brought the AI Overviews feature in English and Hindi to India. The feature utilises generative AI to synthesize data from diverse sources and present it in an easily understandable format, enabling users to swiftly grasp complex subjects, explore different perspectives, and delve deeper into areas of interest.

Google initially launched AI Overviews in Search in the US in May, to help people quickly find information and discover all the web has to offer. Now after extensive testing and positive feedback, the company has expanded the feature in India as well as in the UK, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil – along with local language support in each country.

“In India, we’re rolling out AI Overviews in English and Hindi and are also introducing popular India-first features that were well-received during our Search Labs experiment: helping you easily switch between English and Hindi results with the language toggle button, and listen to responses with Text-To-Speech by tapping the ‘Listen’ button,” Google said in a blogpost.

To use the AI Overviews feature, users will need to perform a search by entering their query into Google Search. After that, an AI Overview will appear at the top of the search results. It’s usually a brief summary of the topic. If you want to delve deeper, click on the links provided within the overview or explore other search results.

According to the company, AI Overviews can help users with increasingly complex questions. “Rather than breaking your question into multiple searches, you can ask your most complex questions, with all the nuances and caveats you have in mind, all in one go”.

Moreover, the tech giant introduced more ways to check out relevant websites while users search, with a new right-hand link display for AI Overviews on desktop – also accessible on mobile by tapping the site icons on the upper right.

“These updates are starting to roll out globally today for AI Overviews in all launched countries, as well as for Search Labs users in more than 120 countries and territories,” Google said.

In addition, the company is currently testing the addition of links to relevant web pages directly within the text of AI Overviews (in addition to the prominent links it already shows), making it even easier for people to click out and visit sites that interest them.
