In order to support digital health infrastructure in India, Google on Thursday said that it will make ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) health ID card accessible on its Wallet app from 2025. It is in partnership with Eka Care, a Personal Health Record (PHR) app.

ABHA Card

The ABHA card is managed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). It is a digital healthcare initiative of the National Health Authority (NHA). This health card provides Indian citizens, with various benefits, including easy access to medical treatments and healthcare facilities. It has simple sign-up options for personal health record applications (like the ABDM ABHA app), and a reliable form of identification.

“Starting next year, ABHA health ID cards, which enable people to store, share and receive digital health information seamlessly with healthcare groups across the country, will be accessible on Google Wallet in partnership with Eka Care,” Google said in a blogpost.

To ensure privacy, ABHA ID holders will be required to authenticate their devices with a fingerprint, PIN, or passcode to add or access their ABHA ID in Google Wallet.

The tech giant mentioned that this will empower more than 600 million users to conveniently and securely manage their health information, such as lab reports and prescriptions, and better utilise India’s public health infrastructure for their well-being.

“As part of this commitment, we’re proud to be supporting the Government of India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) that is being implemented by the National Health Authority,” Google said.
